What's in a Name?
Why Effin?
- As a lifelong non curser, non-pot smoker and low tolerance drinker, I've always struggled on the "cool" meter. The word Effin gave me an "out". I could use the word freely and not feel like I was sacrificing my personal limits. For me it felt like saying the word "Hell or Damn" in church. While it might sound corny to some, I discovered that I’m not alone in feeling this way. So, I wanted to give others like me the freedom to say the "F" word without actually cursing.
Why Egg?
- As an engineer and evangelist for "clean energy", I have always looked for "efficient power sources". I have worked on many innovations in the auto industry to reduce CO2 emissions. In this effort I was surprised to discover that our eating choices also provide a significant lever in reducing environmental impact. As a natural source of protein, the Egg represented one of the cleanest sources of protein and therefore an easy choice to reduce my footprint.
- Beyond its nutritional value, the egg is a reproductive cell capable of developing into a new, independent life. As Effin Egg serves you delicious, edible eggs, I aim to provide you with amazing life experiences as well.
What is the Effin Giving Wall?
Effin Egg Detroit thrives on community. We believe in providing full accessibility to all those that visit our location in Midtown. Our store aims to be accessible to anyone with financial, physical, or cognitive difficulties.
The Gives and Gets program is designed to put into action our social commitment to those who may be experiencing temporary financial difficulties.
How does it work
- GIVE: All Guests and/or members of the community are encouraged to give a low cost menu itemby purchasing and placing the receipt on the Effin Giving Wall. While, individual items on the wall will not exceed $10, multiple items totaling any amount can be purchased and placed on Giving Wall.
- GET: Any Guest and/or member of the community can get a low cost menu item from the Giving Wall by just grabbing a receipt and taking it to the Hospitality staff at the register. To ensure we spread the joy, each Guest and/or member of the community is allowed one "get" per week. However, there may be times when this restriction is lifted.
What's an Effin Pot Head?
- A ‘Pot head’ is someone who enjoys the flavors of coffee and tea, both of which come from potted plants and can be consumed as liquids. Effin Egg serves specially roasted beans to appeal to the Pot Lover in you.
- If Pot is not your thing, we also serve delicious and spirit free mocktails to appeal to the almost wild side of you.
